The Voting Problem in North Carolina
As we have been reporting on the shows, the response from FEMA and North Carolina to the devastation of Hurricane Helene has been its own disaster.
Certainly, it's not easy to get to the areas that have been impacted. Roads filled with mud are still impassable. It takes time to get these road cleared to bring in the aid that is necessary, as well as get substations back on line. Transformers, destroyed by the storms and subsequent floods, are not so easily replaced.
But the issue with funding is a real one. Even Homeland Security Sec. Mayorkas has admitted that FEMA doesn't have the money. Did it go to migrants and illegal immigrants? The Administration and their media acolytes say of course not. But they are not believed, a product of the federal government lying to Americans for years, as well as being politically biased in their approach to "law and order."
Now we being to realize that, with the election just 30 days away, voters who support former President Trump are in those western parts of North Carolina most affected by Helene. If they don't have power, if they are unable to traverse the roads to get to their polling place, they might not be able to vote. This could have a real effect on the results in N.C., where Trump holds a small lead.
People are asking, "Is the slow response purposeful?" As I state below (which you will see on the daily show sheet tomorrow) in response to a quote from former Obama adviser David Axelrod:
"Is Axelrod saying Trump voters are too dumb to vote? Too poor to vote? Or, is he admitting that maybe slow-rolling aid to devastated NC towns will keep Trump supporters from the polls."
I will discuss this in full on both my morning show (6-9amET) and Tony Katz Today (12-3pmET) Tune in or find the livestream at wibc.com
